Our Focus
People with learning disabilities, physically disabilities, mental health, autism, behaviours that may challenge and asperger’s syndrome may need support in certain aspects of their lives, so that they can maximise their independence and live the most fulfilling life they can. This is where we come in.
Sunrise Care is pro-active in supporting all our customers by using person centered approaches. We believe no customer is the same even if they appear to have similar support needs and desired outcomes. We support our customers to set their own goals and aspirations, which focuses on the individual interests and aims in life. It is the job of the staff team to work with the customer to uncover these and to support them to access activities which are personal, interesting, and motivating to them.
This requires a very flexible approach to the way that we support each customer. We work with individuals to plan the steps they need to take to achieve a goal. An example of this would be to carry out travel training if needed to access a new activity, risk assess the activity and provide budgeting training to finance the new activity.
Care plans that are initially created when a new customer starts with us, are updated to reflect any changes in the customer care needs, activities and risk assessments, if applicable.
In order to achieve great outcomes, we understand the need to invest in our staff as they are key to the wellbeing of the clients. To achieve this the company has a rigorous selection process and only the best will succeed.
With almost 20 years of experienced, we have made a significant difference to the wellbeing of vulnerable adults from 18 to 65 years of age, who have the following support needs:
Learning and Physical Disabilities
- Learning Disabilities. A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things throughout their life and it is different for everyone. A person with a learning disability might have some difficulty understanding complicated information; learning some skills; looking after themselves or living alone. Its important to see beyond individual’s disabilities and to understand their challenges. This is what we do in order to bring out the best in people in our care. We also support individuals with learning disabilities and epilepsy and we have a lot experience working with our customers and the multi-disciplinary teams, to ensure the protocols and plan for their epilepsy allows them to continue with everyday life
- Physical Disabilities. We support customers with a range of Neuromusculoskeletal disabilities. Our staff are trained to use a number of different mobility aids, according to the individual need. This supports the customer to mobilise both comfortably and safely
Mental health, Autism and Behaviours that may challenge
- Mental Health. Mental illness disorder is an illness that affects the way people think, feel, behave, or interact with others. There are many types of mental illnesses with different signs and symptoms. We provide care and support to people with a range of mental health issues including people with a forensic history. We work with individuals by listening to them and understanding learnt patterns of behaviour. Where necessary we use our skills to identify early signs of relapses, so that we can put in place appropriate interventions to provide long term stability
- Autism. This is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges with social communication, and by restricted and repetitive behaviour. Our dedicated staff will spend time to know how this disorder manifests differently from one person to the next. We take into account their schedule, how they engage in their immediate environment and encourage them to safely succeed in activities
- Behaviours that may challenge. Along side the person-centred care plan, we develop a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) when required. Our staff, who may have previous experience of dealing with challenging behaviours are given further training to understand the reasons for an individual to present with certain behaviours, and how to change the situation if necessary to encourage an alternative way of communicating
